Derby Workshops

Derby Workshops

Two Derby Workshops will be held prior to the 2021 Pinewood Derby - the first on Sunday, December 13th and the second on Sunday, January 12th. Due to COVID restrictions, this year's workshops will be held at the home of Greg and Kathryn Coulter. We cannot have more than 10 people total (parents, Scouts and siblings) during a given timeslot. Social distancing and masks are required. Please see the signup for more details here.

Participants should come with their design plans in mind. If you need ideas for what shape you want to cut your car, there are tons of templates and ideas on the internet, but be sure to read the official rules first! Scouts (and siblings) can design the shape of the car and observe, but can not use the power tools per BSA rules. We will have two band saws and one belt sander available for use by adults.

NOTE: Families are encouraged to help their Scout to complete his or her car at home. Other than the initial cutting and sanding with power tools (which, if used, must be done by an adult), Scouts should do the majority of the work on their car, including design, paint, etc. Parents should ensure that the car stays within specifications as outlined in the official rules, but should allow their Scout to be creative and make the car their own. We have a parent category so that parents wishing to do so, can relive their childhood and go for the gold in their own right!
